For those who are The Emperor’s New Groove fans, Yzma is a villainous woman who tries to rule the kingdom by trying to kill the Emperor Kusko (but ends up turning him into a llama instead). This is what they have to say about her:
Kuzko: This is Yzma, the emperor’s advisor. Living proof that dinosaurs once roamed the Earth.
Old man 1: Hey Pacha, we just sent your relatives up to your house.
Pacha: My relatives?! What do they look like?
Old man 1: Well there was this big guy and this old woman… how would you describe her?
Old man 2: Scary beyond all reason?
Old man 1: Yeah, that’s it.
We think so too.
In the absence of BBC news, I’ve been keeping an eye on what’s been happening on www.dailymail.co.uk - a UK news site. From what’s written there, it seems that Britain is morally bankrupt, and has no direction, so everyone’s doing what seems best in their own eyes. I write this having seen headlines and articles on the most bizarre kinds of murder; it seems that the traditional shoot/ stab/ strangle is no longer good enough for evil people.
I’ve been recently reading about the ancient Romans (<100 AD), and where a writer says, ‘they invent ways of doing evil’ (R. 1:30b). We need to have a good look at ourselves, and not just blame society, because a society is made up of every individual. Are we actively teaching our kids what is right, and pointing out what is wrong, or are we buying the Postmodernist lie of ‘that’s your truth, this is mine’?
